There is no issue in fighting for the evils that are caused by alcoholism because the addicts are blind and deaf to see and hear it. Don’t you think that the world is getting destroyed after the entire channel of alcoholism? Look at the newspapers stating the evils and bad consequences of alcoholism. If we switch on the news channel then we hear different incidents of people talking about the evils that happened because of alcoholism or its addict. I must say that the world needs a change for removing these evils or else one day the entire planet would be under the trap of alcoholism.

Consequences of alcoholism are of course negative and ruining. There is no point in saying that alcoholism has some good consequences. Alcohol brings negative impact on various factors like social, economical, health and personal.

Personal Consequences caused by alcoholism:

Any person gets destroyed into the channel of alcoholism because after being an addict, a person forgets his personal responsibilities and liabilities towards his family, work and society.

Consequences caused by alcoholism on Health:

It is common to know about the Consequences of alcoholism that are caused on a person’s health. A person spoils his health having alcohol. His brain gets completely drawn into addiction resulting into nostalgia and unusual behavior. Kidney and liver of a person gets destroyed after becoming an alcoholic addict. A person fights between life and death each day after being an alcoholic addict.

Socially also a person becomes indifferent because an alcoholic addict is often cursed and neglect by society. People feel hatred towards a person, who is an alcoholic addict and even advises their son and daughter to be away from such a person. An alcoholic person spoils his economical and financial background by spending all his pennies on alcohol.

Thus, the consequences of alcoholism are harmful and as good as penalties. A person completely forgets himself and becomes an animal after being an alcoholic addict.

Alcoholism – An Unfortunate Consequence for Native Americans

Almost everyone is aware of the effects of “fire-water” on the Native Americans but now take a look at some of the reasons why our brethren turned to this drink and the Seneca prophet, Handsome Lake, who claimed he had three visions, urging him to eradicate this disease of alcoholism from his people.

Alcoholism has been a common problem among Native Americans since the beginning of the 1700s. Popular belief has this caused by the loss of their native lands and the loss of a portion of their culture to the habitation and growing population movements in the United States among “foreigners” (Europeans) who came to settle the country. It is difficult to pin down one exact reason why alcoholism becomes prevalent in a societal group. Most likely, it is a combination of several factors. It is widely believed, in the case of the Native Americans, that conditions such as poverty, unemployment, loss of ancestral homes, broken promises and hostility from the white settlers, feelings of hopelessness, poor overall general health, and the collapse of the Native American family unit were contributing factors. Considering these factors, it is not hard to understand why the Native American population would be distressed.

The unique history of the Native American tribes and the many adversities they have been subjected to make them more susceptible to alcoholism and the associated problems that comes with the disease. There are over 500 tribes, each with its own culture, heritage, and unique set of circumstances. Alcoholism abuse rates are much higher among Native Americans than other culturally diverse groups.

Handsome Lake, a religious leader of the Iroquois people, recovered from a severe bout with alcoholism that nearly took his life in 1799. He was of the Seneca tribe and was a great warrior in Pontiac’s Rebellion against the British in 1763, as well as many other battles including the American Revolutionary War in which he fought against the Americans. After the American Revolutionary War, Handsome Lake played a significant role in negotiations of the Treaty of Canandaigua in 1794.

After his near death from serious symptoms associated with alcoholism, Handsome Lake claimed he saw three visions. He shared these visions with his people. These visions suggested a return to traditional Native American beliefs, while also accepting and sharing some aspects of Christian beliefs with the settlers. Handsome Lake taught a return to Native American traditional values, while encompassing the realities of living and trading with the white man.

Handsome Lake finally saw through the folly of the “white man’s fire water” and awoke to what it was doing to his people, the Seneca and Iroquois, along with other Native American tribes. His visions led him to be called a “prophet.” He was of noble descent; he had been a warrior; and these new visions helped put him in a place of prominence so that his fellow Native Americans listened to him.

Handsome Lake preached and taught from his visions and his experience, seeking to transform the downward spiral of the Native American people and their cultural from one of despair to one of hope and renewal. His teachings became the “new” religion for the Six Nations (tribes of the Iroquois). Handsome Lake also caught the attention of President Jefferson. The President asked his Secretary of War to write a letter of commendation to Handsome Lake for the good work he was doing.

Quitting alcohol isn’t easy for anybody who has alcoholism. The desire to drink might overpower you at times, and you will not be able to say no. At the same time though, you know that quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your relationships with family and loved ones.

If you are finding it difficult to quit, there are many different things you can do to make it easier on you.

1. For one, you can avoid the situations that would normally cause you to drink. Instead of going to the bar after work, why not take your family out somewhere fun. Go to the park, or anywhere that doesn’t have alcohol on the menu.

2. Another very important thing you can do is speak to a therapist. They will listen to your fears and any questions you have about your alcoholism. They are there for you and will not hesitate to provide you with emotional tools you can use any time you feel the urge to drink.

3. No matter how difficult it gets, it is important to remember that things will get easier. As your body begins to wean off of the alcohol, you will find that you have a renewed sense of energy and also that it gets a lot easier to just say no to alcohol.

4. For a while, avoid any social situation where alcohol may play a factor. If you have regular friends that you normally drank with, let them know that you are trying to stop drinking, and that you think it would be best if you stayed away from them for a while. In time you will be able to hang out with them again as soon as you are strong enough to say no to the bottle.

5. Eat a healthy diet. Alcohol fills your body with toxins, so having a healthy diet will help get rid of many of those toxins, and it will also shorten the amount of time it takes for your body to wean off of alcohol.

When you are an alcoholic, quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your family. It will be difficult, and at times you will want to give up. It is important to stay strong and stick with your plan and one day you will be able to say that you are alcohol free.

Is alcoholism an addition? The obvious answer to this question is YES! Like any other trap, alcohol also traps a person making him an addict. Alcoholism addiction could be understood as a compulsive need to have alcohol that could include beer, whisky, wine or alike. Before the person would know the person would have been labeled as an alcoholic by the society or by his own family. Most of the alcoholic couldn’t accept the fact of their alcohol addiction. Alcoholics to a great extend think that they are noting more than social drinkers. They themselves don’t know when they cross of the line of being a social drinker to thrown into the vicious circle of alcohol addiction. The addiction of alcohol would have drastic disastrous effects on once life. An alcohol addiction fails to fulfil his responsibilities. He forgets about the daily commitments that he has. His professional like deteriorates, and the effects of addiction of alcohol get to interfere with his family peace.Alcoholism addiction treatment can’t be a success without the counseling and care extended to an alcoholic. Psychological support, medical care, professional counseling etc are undertaken in alcoholism addiction treatments. Detoxification followed by rehabilitation and there after taking care of the alcoholic is the normal course of any treatment. We have something very innovative and unique to offer, which would help as a miracle for alcoholism addiction treatment.

Every one knows about the social drinking, that would amount to drinking 2-3 times a quarter or in case you are a party animal it could be 1-2 times a month, depending upon your life style; provided you are not getting drunk while you are drinking labeling it as social drinking. It is alarming when a person starts to intake more than regular to get toxicant. The symptoms of alcoholism would enter in one’s life with silent steps and stays as a guest who would never wants to go. There could be obvious social symptoms, emotional symptoms and spiritual symptoms indicating one to be an alcoholic. However, alcoholism physical symptoms is something that embarrasses the near and dear ones in public, this being the most painful.

The alcoholism physical symptoms could be understood as 4 staged prototypical alcoholic behaviors.

1. The first stage of alcoholism physical symptom includes boasting around things, looking out and grabbing more drinking opportunities, demonstrating gross drinking increase etc.

2. The symptoms of alcoholism at the second stage would involve falling for the temptation of drinking very easily, gulping drinks, attempting unsuccessfully to resist drinking, increase in physical problems, blackouts and most of it drinking not to relieve stress but as a matter of dependence.

3. Alcoholism physical symptoms at its 3rd stage would make the drinking as a daily ritual; it would be the first thing that the person would crave for as he/she gets up. Tremorous behavior, physical deterioration, destructive and violent behavior, neglecting family and friends, avoiding necessities such as food and failure to seek for medical help are the other alcoholism symptoms, which are witnessed at this stage.

4. By the time the person gets to the 4th stage of alcoholism symptoms, it is evident to every one. At this stage, one may suffer visual hallucinations, lengthy or benders intoxications, hostility and resentments unreasonably toward others. Loss of alcohol tolerance and most of all starts deteriorating morally.

The effects of alcoholism on the family can be destructive. When a husband, wife, mother or father is an alcoholic, then it can possibly destroy a family. If you’ve been in a long-term relationship with an alcoholic, codependency is almost inevitable, which essentially means that as a codependent you suffer from relationship addiction.

Being in a codependent relationship means your needs aren’t being fulfilled emotionally and that the relationship will in all likelihood be totally one-sided – you trying to please or ‘be there’ for your spouse/partner. This will also have a huge impact on any kids you may have because they will pick up on the destructive nature of the relationship, which will affect them especially in later years. Check here “How To Give Up Alcohol” program.

The effects of alcoholism on a relationship or marriage are huge, in that it naturally puts huge strain on the relationship. So it may reach a stage whether things have just gotten too bad for you (and your kids) that staying in the relationship is just not possible. Considering the whole alcoholism and divorce conundrum or looking at separation may then become a very real issue for you. I grew up in a family where alcoholism caused massive pain and heartbreak so I know how difficult it is to handle and to know what to do. It’s different for every family, but asking yourself things like – how is this effecting the kids, is there abuse involved and how bad is the alcoholism/is it getting worse? – will help you get clearer on the kind of action you need to take.

Eventually something you will have to do is begin taking a stand and practicing tough love – if there is to be any hope that things will change. You’re going to have to draw a line in the sand and say that ‘this is it.’That’s where performing an alcoholism intervention can potentially have a massive impact. Do it right – and it could well mean the beginning of change -because it could get your husband, wife or partner into treatment. At the end of the day though, there just isn’t a quick fix solution. It will definitely help speaking to, and meeting others, who have gone through what you have. Al-Anon, is a great support network and excellent place for you to start. The worst thing in the world you can do, is try to keep things covered up and be ashamed of what is happening – so don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help because there is lots of it out there

Alcoholism stages can be categorized into three stages of alcoholism – early stage, middle stage and end stage alcoholism or late stage alcoholism. Alcoholism stages generally take years to develop. Alcoholism is a disease where alcoholic beverage consumption is at a level that interferes with physical or mental health, and negatively impacts social, family or occupational responsibilities.

Consuming no more than one or two drinks per day for healthy men and a drink a day for healthy non-pregnant women are generally considered acceptable alcohol consumption without health risks. However, as the amount or frequency of drinking increases, the earliest of the alcoholism stages can develop as a result.

Early Stages of Alcoholism

In the early alcoholism stages, a person begins to depend on alcohol to affect their mood. They drink for relief from problems, and they begin thinking more and more about alcohol. The person and others around them may not recognize that they are in the earliest of the stages of alcoholism. A gradual increase in tolerance happens, meaning, it takes increasing amounts of alcohol to achieve the desired mood-altering effects. Often, the person can consume large amounts of alcohol without appearing impaired.

At the early alcoholism stages, the body has adapted to increasing amounts of alcohol. In fact, how a person functions will likely be improved with drinking as blood alcohol levels rise. For example, they can think and talk normally or walk a straight line with no problem. However, with continued alcohol consumption over time, the body begins to lose its ability to deal with high alcohol levels. As this occurs, when the alcoholic stops drinking and their blood alcohol level decreases, their thinking, talking or walking functions deteriorate, and they are moving into the next of the stages of alcoholism.

Middle Alcoholism Stages

The need and desire to drink gradually becomes more intense. Drinking larger amounts and more often happens as well as drinking earlier in the day. The alcoholic is losing control over drinking, and the body is losing its ability to process alcohol like it did in the early stages of alcoholism. Their tolerance decreases as they become intoxicated more easily. Withdrawal symptoms begin to become more severe if alcohol is reduced.

The person may now secretly recognize there is a drinking problem, and others may begin to notice as well. Unfortunately, the alcoholic no longer can judge how much alcohol their body can handle. Typically, the drinker denies to themselves and others that alcohol is a problem so they won’t have to deal with their inner turmoil. Hangovers, blackouts and stomach problems can now be physical symptoms that occur on a regular basis.

End Stage Alcoholism

As alcoholism progresses, the alcoholic has become obsessed with drinking to the exclusion of nearly everything else. Everyone can tell there’s a major problem. During the late alcoholism stages, the mental and physical health of the alcoholic are seriously deteriorating. Many of the body’s organs have been damaged which lowers resistance to disease. Relationships at home or socially may have been severely damaged, and there can be mounting financial and legal problems due to the alcoholic’s powerlessness over alcohol.

Every alcoholic will suffer from malnutrition. Alcohol in large amounts interferes with the digestion process and the passage of nutrients from the intestines into the bloodstream. Liver function has been damaged, further limiting the conversion of nutrients into a usable form that the body can assimilate. The damaged cells are not receiving the needed nutrients, they cannot repair themselves and the damage continues. Nutritional deficiencies cause a host of related problems to become worse. For example, a vitamin B-1 deficiency common in alcoholics can result in loss of mental alertness and appetite, fatigue, confusion and emotional instability.

And if the alcoholic continues drinking, alcohol will cause the death of the alcoholic in one way or another. From suicide, accidents and related injuries to direct damage to the body’s organs and systems, death will likely be the final outcome of end stage alcoholism.

Are there warning signs of alcoholism? Yes! Understand the signs and symptoms that indicate that alcohol consumption is becoming or is already a problem. There are resources available in a variety of ways to help deal with alcoholism stages and the serious consequences of this disease

What is alcoholism?Alcoholism is a disease that affects the part of the brain that controls your feelings, the way you make decisions, and the way you act. People with alcoholism cannot control how much they drink. What causes alcoholism?Nobody knows what causes alcoholism. People with parents who have alcoholism have a greater chance of getting the disease. Alcoholism may be related to the things we learn when we are growing up. Alcoholism is not caused by a lack of will power or moral values. How can I tell if I have alcoholism? It is not easy to tell if you have alcoholism. You might drink socially at first, but over time the drinking can get out of control. Your family, friends, or doctor might notice it before you do. You might drink to help yourself go to sleep or deal with stress and anxiety. Over time, you need to drink more to feel the same way. As the drinking gets worse, you may have some of the following:* Stomach ulcers* Liver disease* Mood problems, such as depression and irritability* Trouble sleeping* Problems with family and friends* Problems at work. You might have alcoholism if you have tried to quit drinking but were not able to stop. Alcoholism can make you do things you wouldn’t do if you were sober. Some of these things can hurt other people, even the people you love. Where can I get help for alcoholism?Your doctor can help you find the right treatment program. You also can check with your health insurance company. Some insurance plans cover alcohol treatment only at certain places. If you have been a heavy drinker for a long time, do not stop drinking suddenly. This can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms. What is withdrawal? When you stop drinking, your body might find it hard with no alcohol. You might have some uncomfortable feelings. That is called withdrawal. You might feel anxious and confused or have trouble sleeping. If you get “the shakes” when you don’t drink, or if you feel like you need to have a drink early in the day, you might need to take medicine when you stop drinking to help with the withdrawal. This is called detoxification (say:dee-tox-uh-fuh-kay-shun, or “detox,” for short). How can my doctor tell if I need detoxification?Your doctor will ask you questions to see if you need to take medicine to stop drinking. It is important to be honest with your doctor about how much you drink and the kinds of drugs you take. Can detoxification be done at home?Yes, but only with close supervision from your doctor. You will need to have another person at home to help you take your medicine. If you have serious withdrawal symptoms or other medical problems, you might have to go to a hospital for detoxification. Tell your doctor if you had a seizure or got delirious when you tried to stop drinking before. What happens after detoxification?Detoxification is not enough to treat alcoholism. You should have counseling before and after detoxification. Counseling will help keep you from drinking again. What about Alcoholics Anonymous?Alcoholics Anonymous, or “A.A.,” is a free support group for people with alcoholism. The people in A.A. help each other stay sober. Most communities have A.A. meetings, and most alcohol treatment programs tell their patients to go to these meetings. Where can I get more information?Your doctorThis information provides a general overview and may not apply to everyone. Talk to your family doctor to find out if this information applies to you and to get more information on this subject
