Quitting Alcohol: Tips for Success

Quitting alcohol isn’t easy for anybody who has alcoholism. The desire to drink might overpower you at times, and you will not be able to say no. At the same time though, you know that quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your relationships with family and loved ones.

If you are finding it difficult to quit, there are many different things you can do to make it easier on you.

1. For one, you can avoid the situations that would normally cause you to drink. Instead of going to the bar after work, why not take your family out somewhere fun. Go to the park, or anywhere that doesn’t have alcohol on the menu.

2. Another very important thing you can do is speak to a therapist. They will listen to your fears and any questions you have about your alcoholism. They are there for you and will not hesitate to provide you with emotional tools you can use any time you feel the urge to drink.

3. No matter how difficult it gets, it is important to remember that things will get easier. As your body begins to wean off of the alcohol, you will find that you have a renewed sense of energy and also that it gets a lot easier to just say no to alcohol.

4. For a while, avoid any social situation where alcohol may play a factor. If you have regular friends that you normally drank with, let them know that you are trying to stop drinking, and that you think it would be best if you stayed away from them for a while. In time you will be able to hang out with them again as soon as you are strong enough to say no to the bottle.

5. Eat a healthy diet. Alcohol fills your body with toxins, so having a healthy diet will help get rid of many of those toxins, and it will also shorten the amount of time it takes for your body to wean off of alcohol.

When you are an alcoholic, quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your family. It will be difficult, and at times you will want to give up. It is important to stay strong and stick with your plan and one day you will be able to say that you are alcohol free.
