Alcohol Poisoning

Posted on Jun 02, 2009 under Alcoholism | No Comment

Alcohol is a poison and this is not something that needs an explanation. People drink alcohol for different reasons; reason could be any but the result is the same. Drinking alcohol would eventually take you near to mortality – it could be a slow or a quick procedure depending upon the quantity of consumption. Heavier the consumption pace at which the people approach the end is speed up. However, this doesn’t mean that social drinkers are emancipated from this disease called alcohol poisoning. Sooner or late they could cross the line over and become habitual to it and would find it difficult to get out of the vicious circle.Alcohol poisons the body in the long run. Consuming alcohol would result in alcohol poisoning eventually. Involuntary actions like gag reflex and breathing are intervened with the excessive dose of the alcohol. Alcohol attacks the nerves that control the functionality of these involuntary actions. This is the barest way in which the effect of alcohol poisoning could be explained.Despite that people are not hesitant consuming the alcohol poison. The only thin line between reaching this stage and being an occasional drinker is control. If you could have that kind of control and self discipline you could enjoy the drink rather than falling victim of alcohol poisoning. The most critical part of the story is that when the person is drunk, he or she is not in a state of mind to know or act that would help. He/she would drink and get passed out. It should be a social responsibility of every individual to aide when you witness alcohol poisoning symptoms, irrespective of the fact that you know the person or not. The person who drinks and passes out might die, if immediate attention and required help is not provided. This is the most common thing as when people start to drink beyond a limit, they drink in isolation – so there would be no one around to help. If you see some one who has consumed enough alcohol that could lead to alcohol poisoning, don’t think before you act. Apart from these other alcohol poisoning symptoms could be evident on the surface.Alcohol attacks the mental alertness. Excessive consumption would result in mental confusion, dullness, slumberness or may be the person under the influence of excessive alcohol can’t be roused. Vomiting could one of the other alcohol poisoning symptoms as liquor act as an irritant to the stomach. Irregular or/and slow breathing can detect alcohol poison. The person’s body temperature would go low (hypothermia) and would go pale and the skin color might get bluish.Don’t hesitate to help someone who is near and dear to you or some one you don’t even know in case alcohol poisoning symptoms are surfaced.
