Alcohol poisoning needs immediate medical attention to make sure that the vital system of the body remains balanced and not impaired dangerously. Some think that the treatment is as easy as sleeping the alcohol off, but the treatment for alcohol poisoning is a bigger deal than that.Vomiting is the easiest treatment for alcohol poisoning. When intoxication happens, the risk of choking on your own vomit is very high especially when the person is unconscious. So it is advisable to turn an unconscious person to lie sideways because this is the surest and safest position to avoid choking and ensure open airways. There are many cases of intoxication leading to death for this very reason, they are left unattended and choked during vomiting and an airway becomes clogged.Hypothermia is when alcohol lowers the temperature of the body due to constriction of the blood vessels. Excessive levels of alcohol intake can induce this dangerous condition. Usually drunks are covered in sweat or vomit and are left lying down wet. This is a dangerous state of the body and someone can die if warned up too quickly. In emergency rooms, the treatment to alcohol poisoning is to apply warm blankets and intravenous. Giving of intravenous fluid as the treatment for alcohol poisoning can also help to rehydrate the body of possible fluid loss due to excessive sweating and vomiting. The fluid of choice is usually glucose; not only for warming and to rehydrate the body, but also to bring up the glucose level to a safe and acceptable level.Reduced Consciousness and Confusion: Alcohol content is usually the reason for a lower oxygen level thus resulting to a weird bizarre behaviour and confusion for other people. Air management and maximizing air to reduce consciousness are the quickest treatment of alcohol poisoning. Visual observations as well as medical intervention are needed to ensure the safety of the person. This experience makes you feel sick and their integrity and dignity can also be affected. Some people do not remember what happened when they were intoxicated and often shame themselves after the fact. Drinking should be fun and enjoyable, but excessive drinking takes the fun out of a happy occasion and risks you and your health to a permanent danger. Always remember the treatment to alcohol poisoning to know what to do the next time you encounter someone with the same problem.People should always put in mind the quickest treatment for alcohol poisoning; know their alcohol limit and stop when they are still ahead. A wild night of confusion and drunkenness is not worth the shame and hangover you’ll feel the next day.Robert Grazian is an accomplished niche website developer and author.
Unfortunately, too many people are not responsible drinkers. Treatment for alcohol poisoning is necessary for too many people these days. We hear stories all the time of people drinking far too much and dying as a result. Young people who do not know how to drink responsibly are usually the ones that suffer from drinking too much.

Many people believe that alcohol should be banned altogether. This is an extreme belief, the best answer is for people to take responsibility for their actions and monitor their alcohol consumption. This seems almost impossible as well. Treatment for alcohol poisoning usually needs done in a hospital.

Alcohol poisoning is a result of drinking too much alcohol for the body to process. If treatment for alcohol poisoning is delayed, a person can suffer serious health issues. In some cases, the person can die from this condition.

Contrary to popular belief, the treatment for alcohol poisoning is not strong coffee, fresh air or more sleep. Alcohol poisoning can cause important functions of the body to malfunction. This is why it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

Some of the symptoms of alcohol poisoning include a low body temperature, bluish skin; irregular breathing and they may even have seizures. Once in the hospital, the individual may be connected to a breathing apparatus to aid in breathing. Since the person will likely be suffering from dehydration, they will be connected to an IV machine to correct this.

Treatment for alcohol poisoning can be successful if treated in a timely manner. The toughest part about dealing with this condition is recognizing it in the first place. People do not realize you can overdose on alcohol; it is just like a drug. If you think that narcotics are also involved then the medical personnel must be informed of this as well.

Even if a person stops drinking, the level of alcohol continues to rise. It takes thirty to ninety minutes for alcohol to make it into your bloodstream and circulate throughout your body. For someone who is binge drinking, there is a good chance that they will need treatment for alcohol poisoning.

As you can see, over consuming alcohol can lead to serious problems including the need for treatment for alcohol poisoning. Many young people believe they can drink as much as they want and it then just sleeps it off. This is unfortunately not true as too many young people succumb to excessive drinking.

Signs and Treatments of Alcohol Poisoning

Has the thought of alcohol poisoning been troubling you, want to know all you can about it? Here are the signs and treatments of alcohol poisoning.Ask every teen (above 18) and those in their 20s, and they will tell you the main reason they go to bars or clubs is because they want to drink and have a good time? But how good a time are you having when you are throwing up or can’t remember how it happened? This is a sign of drinking too much alcohol, more than your body can tolerate. You need to be aware of what you are getting into when consuming alcohol, its fine that you want to have a good time, but what are the risks involved? I’m sure most of us have heard of alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning is a serious and often fatal condition that results from drinking way too much alcohol. The body absorbs alcohol, but when there are extreme amounts of alcohol in the body, it directly affects the central nervous system. This could result in slow breathing, sluggish heart rate and can lead to choking, a comatose state or death. So how does alcohol poisoning occur? One of the reasons is drinking too much alcohol is too short a span and even due mixing different alcoholic beverages together (everyone who drinks should know never to mix drinks). Most people go on a sort of drinking binge and end up with alcohol poisoning. But alcohol poisoning doesn’t only occur by drinking alcohol, it can even occur by ingesting household products that contain ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol and methyl alcohol. Any person with alcohol poisoning needs immediate medical care and should in no situation be left alone for any amount of time. But how do you know if a person is suffering from alcohol poisoning?Signs and Symptoms of Alcohol PoisoningHere are the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning:

A state of stupor or confusion and disorientation.

Excessive vomiting.

Sudden seizures.

Breathing is slow or irregular.

Skin has become ghastly pale or blue-tinged.

Shivering as a sign of low body temperature or hypothermia.

Becoming unconscious.

Treatment of Alcohol PoisoningThe fastest method of getting treatment for alcohol poisoning is to get medical care for that person. This is the first step in treatment. If you notice any one with any of the symptoms mentioned, you need to call the emergency number in your area (like 911 in America). You will most probably be put in touch with the poison center that will guide you on what needs to be done. One of the things they will tell you is to not leave the unconscious person alone and not try to make them vomit, as there are chances of choking. Treatment will typically include:

Monitoring the person carefully.

Protecting the airway to allow for regular breathing and to prevent choking.

Oxygen therapy.

Giving the person fluids through a vein to avoid dehydration (especially when the person is unconscious.

In case of methanol ingestion, dialysis on the kidney will be done to get the alcohol out of the system as soon as possible. Dialysis is also part of the treatment for isopropyl alcohol poisoning.

Like Jews everywhere, they’ll raise their glasses four times in the course of the evening.Unlike most others, the glasses will not contain wine: at the “Sober Seder” only grape juice will be served. In the Recovery Capital of America, finding an AA meeting is not hard (there are 190 in Boca Raton and neighboring Delray Beach). Fortunately enough for Jewish addicts, finding one in conjunction with a Shabbat dinner or Pesach seder is also easy.Rabbi Meir Kessler moved to this Florida city 40 miles north of Miami, in 2005. When he realized that many of his neighbors were struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, Kessler decided to devote his efforts to their recovery. As a chaplain for the Renaissance Institute of Palm Beach, Kessler is able to assist Jewish addicts from around the world, who have come to Boca Raton specifically for this purpose. His Jewish Recovery Center hosts three AA meetings a week, including a popular Friday night dinner for 80; operates two recovery homes for “highly motivated” male and female addicts who have completed rehab; and refers people to appropriate emergency treatment and counseling. But it is on Passover, the holiday of freedom, when JRC’s premise is fully recognized.“The seder has a whole different meaning for a recovering addict who is trying to leave his own personal Egypt,” explains Kessler. With compulsions towards drugs, alcohol, food, or gambling, these addicts focus on “freeing themselves from the bondage of self.” Guests go around the seder table sharing stories of their personal “exodus.” Though the stories can be inspiring, there is sadness present as well.“People who come to us are often very hurt and in a lot of pain,” Kessler says. “They are hurting because they cannot be with their family during the holiday. We tell them that being separated this year will enable them to be together with family in years to come.“At the end of the night,” he continues, “the addicts tell me how powerful it is that they are not alone. They are not having this ‘freedom’ discussion in a church basement, but at a Pesach seder with fellow Jews.”Andrew S. who has been involved with the Center since 2007, told Lu1000bavitch.com that to him, “Freedom means having the ability to make choices—in my case, to choose not to pick up a drink. I can choose to be of service to someone else instead of being enslaved to the need to serve my own addiction.”The last of AA’s 12 steps instructs a recovering addict to give back to others, and today the Montreal native serves as the resident manager of the JRC’s recovery house for men. In that position, he “maintains the house and its integrity, making sure that it remains a safe, supportive, and sober community.”“Last year’s seder was wonderful,” reminisces Andrew. “The rabbi tied in a lot of the story of Passover with what we are going through in recovery. He drew many parallels between the bondage of an alcoholic and that of an enslaved man.”“One aspect we discussed at length was the idea that matzah represents humility,” explains Kessler. “That is a big portion of recovery. We also explored how ‘Kadesh’ [the first part of the Seder when Kiddush is recited] means holy. We are all infinitely holy. One can’t use the excuse that he is a bad person and can therefore do bad things. We are holy—anything we do is secondary to that.”No wine is served at this unique seder (or ever on the Kessler’s Shabbat table), so as not to “tempt or trigger people.” Kessler encourages everyone to serve a bottle of grape juice at their seder, as an alternative for those who can’t or won’t drink.“At a family seder there is a lot of pressure to drink wine and when it is in front of me, I really wish I could,” Andrew reveals. “But when we are here, all together, we are all in the same boat.“Before we shared a common problem, we now share a common solution.”Sharon Carter is a certified alcoholism counselor and volunteers for JRC, answering the Kessler’s clinical questions. She believes that the “enriched Jewish environment” allows recovering addicts to be part of a “safe and supportive community.” The Kesslers, she says, “have worked very hard to understand what is helpful and loving” for someone in early recovery. Tough love, agrees the now-veteran rabbi, was his hardest lesson.“I am really looking forward to the Sober Seder,” states Carter.
Alcoholism Treatment OptionsMedicationsThe classical use of medications for alcoholism is to encourage abstinence. Antabuse (also known as disulfiram), for instance, prevents the elimination of chemicals which cause severe discomfort when alcohol is ingested, effectively preventing the alcoholic from drinking in significant amounts while they take the medicine. Heavy drinking while on antabuse can result in severe illness and death.Naltrexone has also been used because it helps curb cravings for alcohol while the person is on it. Both of these, however, have been demonstrated to cause a rebound effect when the user stops taking them. These do allow a person to overcome psychological addictions to alcohol, but they do not treat the neurochemical addiction. In more recent studies it has been demonstrated that the use of naltrexone while the alcoholic continues to drink can result in extinction of the neurochemical addiction. Referred to as the “Sinclair Method”, this technique is used with good results some US states and in Finland but has failed to penetrate much of the world because of the long-standing bias against any treatment that doesn’t involve detoxification and abstinence.RationingRationing or other attempts to control use are increasingly ineffective as pathological attachment to the drug develops. Use often continues despite serious adverse health, personal, legal, work-related, and financial consequences.DetoxificationDetoxification programs run by medical institutions often involve stays for a number of weeks in specialized hospital wards, where drugs may be used to avoid withdrawal symptoms. In severe cases, detoxification may lead to death. To that point, even a simple “de-tox” can involve seizures, if not properly monitored.Post Detox TherapyAfter detoxification, various forms of group therapy or psychotherapy are recommended to deal with underlying psychological issues leading to alcohol dependence. It is also used to provide the recovering addict with relapse prevention skills.Aversion therapies may be supported by drugs like Disulfiram, which causes a strong and prompt sensitivity reaction whenever alcohol is consumed. Naltrexone or Acamprosate may improve compliance with abstinence planning by treating the physical aspects of cravings to drink. The standard pharmocopoeia of antidepressants, anxiolytics, and other psychotropic drugs treat underlying mood disorders, neuroses, and psychoses associated with alcoholic symptoms.Group CounselingIn the mid-1930s, the mutual-help group-counseling approach to treatment began and has become very popular. Alcoholics Anonymous is the best-known example of this movement. Various branches are available for family members of the alcoholic or commonly referred to as the co-dependents. Other groups include LifeRing Secular Recovery and SMART Recovery.PreventionSome programs attempt to help problem drinkers before they become dependents. These programs focus on harm-reduction and reducing alcohol intake as opposed to cold-turkey approaches. One such program is called Moderation Management.Nutritional therapyAnother treatment program is based on nutritional therapy. Many alcohol dependents have insulin resistance syndrome, a metabolic disorder where the body’s difficulty in processing sugars causes an unsteady supply to the blood stream. While the disorder can be treated by a hypoglycemic diet, this can affect behavior and emotions, side-effects often seen among alcohol dependents in treatment. The metabolic aspects of such dependence are often overlooked, resulting in poor results.Return to normal drinkingAlthough it has long been argued that alcoholic dependents cannot learn to drink in moderation, research by the U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) indicates a small percentage of individuals in the US whose dependence began more than one year earlier are now drinking in moderation. In contrast, a high percentage who undergo naltrexone use-reduction therapy are capable of normal drinking habits. Use of Naltrexone involves taking the medication an hour before any drinking occurs in order to maintain this.Societal ImpactToday, alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence are major public health problems in North America, costing the region’s inhabitants, by some estimates, as much as US$170 billion annually. Alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence sometimes cause death, particularly through liver, pancreatic, or kidney disease, internal bleeding, brain deterioration, alcohol poisoning, and suicide. Heavy alcohol consumption by a pregnant mother can also lead to fetal alcohol syndrome, an incurable and damaging condition.Additionally, alcohol abuse and dependence are major contributing factors for head injuries, motor vehicle accidents, violence and assaults, neurological, and other medical problems.Alcohol addiction is a treatable disease. If you are an alcoholic or are a family member of an alcoholic, contact your physician for the most current treatments available.By: Heather ColmanArticle Directory: http://www.articledashboard.comThis article is Copyright © 2006, Heather Colman.
Alcoholics simply cannot resist the urge to drink. Often, no matter how hard they try they cannot stop drinking. Most of these people are well aware of the damage that is happening to their body, so they will try to seek out treatments for alcoholism. Below are some natural treatments for alcoholism that can be used in conjunction with any treatment plan.

One of the best natural remedies comes in the form of herbs. Aloe vera is one herb in particular that can help you strengthen your liver. It also helps to prevent cirrhosis, which is one of the first symptoms that an alcoholic will notice.

There are also many home remedies that can be used to help alcoholism treatment run more smoothly. Eating a lot of fruit is great for lowering the effects of alcoholism. Citrus fruits in particular can have great effects on reducing the symptoms of a hangover. Bananas and apples are also great for helping to remove toxins from the bloodstream.

Grapes have the ability of helping to reduce your urge to drink alcohol. In fact, if you eat nothing but grapes for a few weeks, you will notice that your temptation to drink will be completely gone. Start to drink a wider variety of non alcoholic beverages. Next time you feel the urge to start drinking, grab a glass of water or carrot juice instead. This will help to remove the urge to drink.

Beating alcoholism has a lot to do with your brain power. Because of this, it might be a good idea to take up a separate hobby, so that you can get your mind off of the alcohol and onto something more productive. Additionally, you may want to try to figure out what it is that triggers you to drink. Once you know what the triggers are, you will be better able to avoid them.

As you can see, there are many treatments for alcoholism.

Quitting alcohol isn’t easy for anybody who has alcoholism. The desire to drink might overpower you at times, and you will not be able to say no. At the same time though, you know that quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your relationships with family and loved ones.

If you are finding it difficult to quit, there are many different things you can do to make it easier on you.

1. For one, you can avoid the situations that would normally cause you to drink. Instead of going to the bar after work, why not take your family out somewhere fun. Go to the park, or anywhere that doesn’t have alcohol on the menu.

2. Another very important thing you can do is speak to a therapist. They will listen to your fears and any questions you have about your alcoholism. They are there for you and will not hesitate to provide you with emotional tools you can use any time you feel the urge to drink.

3. No matter how difficult it gets, it is important to remember that things will get easier. As your body begins to wean off of the alcohol, you will find that you have a renewed sense of energy and also that it gets a lot easier to just say no to alcohol.

4. For a while, avoid any social situation where alcohol may play a factor. If you have regular friends that you normally drank with, let them know that you are trying to stop drinking, and that you think it would be best if you stayed away from them for a while. In time you will be able to hang out with them again as soon as you are strong enough to say no to the bottle.

5. Eat a healthy diet. Alcohol fills your body with toxins, so having a healthy diet will help get rid of many of those toxins, and it will also shorten the amount of time it takes for your body to wean off of alcohol.

When you are an alcoholic, quitting alcohol is the best possible thing you can do for your own health, and for your family. It will be difficult, and at times you will want to give up. It is important to stay strong and stick with your plan and one day you will be able to say that you are alcohol free.
